DIY All Natural Body Butter / Essential Oils

 All Natural Body Butter

I don’t know about you, but anything with butter in the title sounds good to me. This all natural body butter recipe has a sweet aroma, is light to the touch, and goes on smoothly. Better late than never, I am learning just how damaging synthetic fragrances can be to our overall health. I shutter to think how long I have allowed toxic chemicals to absorb into my skin.

Would you consider your skin to be dry, oily, or normal? Overall, I would say my skin is on the dry side.  The areas that suffer the most are my hands, legs, and feet. The bottom of my feet have endured the hottest of pavements throughout my lifetime and it’s done a number on them.  My hands not only endure regular household chores, but also repetative conditions at work that contribute to dryness.

This journey to a healthier lifestyle has not only opened my eyes to just how damaging most household cleaners are, but also most beauty products. Synthetic fragrances are the main culprit in what is harmful to our skin, lungs, and gut! Every winter, like many, my skin becomes flaky and itchy.  My normal routine was to reach for my Bath and Body Works lotions. The frustrating thing was, it never made a difference in the overall feel or appearance of my skin.

Learning more and more about the natural benefits to essential oils has been life changing. Recently, I whipped up a rich combination of Cocoa butter, Mango butter, and Shae butter that leaves my skin feeling softer than ever!

all natural body butter

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Shae butter
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa butter
  • 1/2 cup Mango butter ( cold-pressed coconut oil can be substituted in place of Mango)
  • 1 tsp. Vitamin E oil
  • 1/2 cup Sweet Almond Oil
  • 10-20 drops of Young Living Essential Oils of choice (I used Orange and Vanilla, and my sister used Lavender and Vanilla)

Directions:

Melt all butters together on stove (best to use a double broiler).  Once butters are melted, remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled, add remaining ingredients, stir, and place in fridge until somewhat set (approx. 45 min.)

Removed from fridge and whip with hand mixer. Spoon into a glass jar and stick a pretty label on it.

*Note – a little goes a long way when applying.  It will be greasier than most lotions, but it will absorb into your skin quickly.  I love applying it to my feet before bed.

Below is a picture of our bathroom displaying a handful of DIY skin products I have added to my morning and nightly routines.

Where can I get the butters at to make this? Also I have been interested in YL but I have pets (2 cats) and I’m scared of the oils being around them. I have heard many are toxic to them. We also live in a small place for now, a mobile home , so I’m kind of scared to defuse oils in here with them.

While there are a some essential oils to avoid around pets, most are fine if introduced slowly and diluted. Here is a helpful article about pets and essential oils: https://www.youngliving.com/blog/essential-oils-for-pets-a-quick-how-to/
