We recently decided that after twenty four years, it was okay to purchase a new bed, which then resulted in a new room layout. It may have had something to do with our middle daughter getting married and moving most of her bedroom furniture out 😉 After all, her old bedroom will now serve as a guest room, so this seemed like the perfect excuse to upgrade ours.
NEW BED
I have had my sights on this particular canopy bed since seeing it in my sister’s home over a year ago. She purchased the white one, and it looks perfect in her farmhouse. My original vision was to re-purpose and drape the sheers we used in Lauren’s wedding, but ended up like the naked look best.
Specifics:
Novogratz Marion Canopy Bed Frame, Black, Queen

- Built-in headboard and footboard (bed Height is 73″). Clearance beneath the bed can be used for storage (11″)
- Available in black, gold, white, and dark gray
I love to rearrange furniture!! Problem is, I can rarely manage it on my own, so it takes some convincing before the hubby will agree. My argument stands true – it’s such an easy way to give a room a whole new vibe. Because we had to completely dismantle and move our old bed out, he was on board 🙂
After adding on to our home fifteen years ago, our bedroom became longer and gained an extra door. We decided to move the bed in front of the wall of windows. This simple modification created an illusion of a wider space instead of longer. It also opened up ample room on either side of the bed that we lacked previously.
We finally found new matching nightstands from At Home and they match our large dresser almost perfectly. As you can see, they are even smart 😉
We moved the large dresser in front of the feature wall and we made a cozy reading nook on the opposite side of the room. The new layout makes the our bedroom feel much larger now. Sure, it may not be ideal to have the bed in front of the windows for multiple reasons, but the overall aesthetic is enough to warrant the change in my book.
New Bedding
I have been craving warmer tones lately, so it was all the heart eyes for this deep blush velvet quilt. This chunky knit blanket added contrast, texture, and extra warmth if needed. A room always feels extra inviting with layered pillows and blankets. We added this bed wrap from Standard Textile. It provides a clean look and hides what is stored beneath our bed.

Well done Martha! You are always so good with re-purposing and re-imagining a space. The colors are beautiful, and a perfect “soft” Fall look. Your vision is impeccable, and I love what you did with this room my friend :)xo
