I was shocked to learn recently that a full-time employee making minimum wage often cannot afford a one-bedroom apartment in the U.S. Half or more of 1-6 family’-s’ income is used to pay rent or a mortgage. Too often, there is a hard choice of whether or not to buy healthy food, pay for housing, transportation, and/or life-saving medicine. Together we can help provide keys that will unlock a brighter future for millions of people.
I am honored to help raise awareness along side Habitat for Humanity in their annual Home Is Key campaign.
One thing I will never take for granted is having a roof over my family’s head. It wasn’t easy 20 years ago when we purchased our first home, and it’s become even harder to achieve that dream today. I have a heavy heart for those who are faced with uncertainty and fear of where they will live tomorrow.
Here’s What Affordable Housing Can Do
- Frees up income. Families are able to purchase healthy food, medicine, and transportation.
- Less visits to the ER. 90 percent of homeowners in Colorado saw an improvement in their family’s overall health after becoming Habitat homeowners.
- Saving for retirement. In Evansville, IN, 97 percent of Habitat homeowners are now able to save for the future.
- Overall safer. 94 percent of those living in San Francisco East Bay and Silicon Valley reported feeling safer in their Habitat homes.
Habitat’s Home is the Key campaign has been monumental in providing affordable homes, which in return, creates a better life for families and individuals.

Such a wonderful cause to bring awareness to!
Such a worthy cause! I live in a high cost of living area, and we’re renting while we save up to one day buy a house. At this point in my life, home ownership to me would mean having complete control over whether we stay in our beloved neighborhood and preserving our kids’ childhood home.
My home equals my happy place. I am a firm believer that you can be renting or owning and have a home not just a building that houses your “stuff”. With that said, most of us want to own our own place that we can decorate, invite family and friends to enjoy with us, a place to hang our hat and hang out in pajamas all day, celebrate and make memories. Habitat for Humanity is a great organization that helps people realize their dreams!
Love what you said, thanks so much for stopping by!
H O M E is a place where family can come together feeling unconditional love and knowing that they are safe and secure. It is the one place that each family member knows they are accepted and they can feel confident that every dream is supported and encouraged. Memories are made a home and they are cherished for decades. It is a safe haven and every person should know the love of a home in their life. Beautiful post and giveaway, Martha. You are doing something wonderful.
LOVE IT! Home is absolutely our SAFE place. Thank you so much for stopping by <3
HOME – where you feel at peace and true happiness while experiencing your ups and downs with your family.
Yes, so agree <3

I absolutely LOVE the creativity it took to write your response <3
I am a Habitat home owner of 4 years and it completely changed our lives (myself, my husband, and our 3 kids). Its been so wonderful to have a beautiful, affordable house to invest in our future and our kids. I never in my life looked forward to going home or felt safe at home until the day the keys were ours and I stepped through the doorway. Such a wonderful feeling!
This gives me all the feels <3
This is such a wonderful opportunity for such a wonderful cause!!
When I think about being a homeowner I can’t help but think about my kids. The memories they’re making, the safety that they feel in bed at night, the fun they have playing in their rooms, Saturday morning breakfasts and cartoons. Right now home is everything to them, and I feel like we, as their parents, are literally creating their Carousel of memories that they’ll look back on when they become home owners one day! 🙂
Couldn’t agree more <3
We’ve owned and rented and there’s just nothing like owning your own home. It’s nice to be able to do decorate and remodel the house if you want to and not have to ask anyone for permission! I think your home feels more like home when it’s yours and not someone else’s.
It’s so easy to take certain blessings for granted until you can see the other side of the coin. What a great campaign this is!
It means a save haven and comfortable rest spot for all 11 of us.
Im so thankful for my home, for the roof over my head. No matter how big or small, having a home is always a blessing.
We are blessed to be home owners! Renting prices are crazy!
Such a wonderful cause!
What a wonderful organization that is near and dear to my heart! Both my boys volunteered with community service to Habitat for Humanity while in high school and college.
Home is where our family makes all the memories and feels safe! After losing my job last year, the struggle to be a stay at home mom and pay the bills has been overwhelming. Our family is full of home bodies because we have so much love here in our home!
What a great opportunity! Can’t wait to see who is chosen!
The rental market in the US is crazy! In some cities it blows my mind. This is awesome girl! 🙂
