A few posts back I shared how intimidating open shelf styling can be. I hope the tips I suggested left you a little more at ease. Click here to view that post. Well, I think designing a gallery wall is even more challenging. This week I’m back to share both concepts combined into one. I’m calling it an open shelf gallery wall. I used the same idea when mapping out a gallery wall by laying the prints out on the floor, but ultimately no holes were made 😀
Open Shelf Gallery Wall
I shared a sneak peek here highlighting some new word art I recently purchased from Etsy, and then had custom framed with Frame it Easy. I didn’t have a vision then of how I wanted to style this shelf, but I knew I loved how the prints looked layered.

With Layering in Mind
I set out to gather a few more pieces of art. Stacking and layering with different heights adds dimension and interest. I began each scenario with the 2 larger prints. They just looked better grouped in the center than on the outer edges. (Progress photos should have been taken of each scenario – insert eye roll here – I didn’t think about that at the time).
I ended up leaning every piece and not hanging any of the frames, so I guess it didn’t end up being a gallery wall at all. Then again, it sort of is… an open shelf gallery wall, that is 🙂 As you well know by now, shopping my own home first, brings me joy. The arrow, #supermom, and wooden beads are all items I already had and they added in some texture for the final touch.
New Etsy Prints
Moving on, I was so happy with my new prints for the open shelf that I ordered a few more to tie in behind my desk. This is what I call a gallery wall in the making. After hanging the new prints and photographing them, I realized I want a bigger piece on the far left, don’t you agree? Maybe just a larger frame with a matte around the word art.
All word art print sources will be listed below.
I hope you find this post useful. I love how my open shelf gallery wall came together, and the fact that no holes were made in the wall. This leaves lots of room to change the order of prints around. Things are constantly moving around here (when it comes to home decor). Using the concept of layering and stacking leaves endless possibilities when styling!

Looking for the pink chair
Hi
I love your home office!
where did you get that desk?
Hello, I so wish I could source this desk as this is a popular request, but it’s thirty years old!! It looks nothing like it’s original state, because we removed the hutch and chalk painted it white. Sorry!
Finally, I have found the answer to your desk. I’ve been googling and searching everywhere to find it. Thank you for sharing that it can no longer get be found. Heart broken lol. I guess I better break the news to my hubby aswell.
What color is the walls?
