Hello friends, I’ve missed you! I had something scary happen with my website this past week, so that’s why I have been away. All is fixed now, thankfully, but I was in the middle of documenting how I surprised the girls with a spontaneous backyard picnic the evening of Memorial Day when it caught a bug.
Spontaneous Picnic
I hope you all enjoyed celebrating, honoring, and remembering this past Memorial Day holiday. Our family enjoyed a good bbq, pool fun, and even managed a backyard picnic to close out the long weekend. Truth of the matter is, I set this up after we had already eaten dinner, so this pretty presentation was to enjoy ice-cream. It was totally spontaneous, and I think that’s what made it all the more special. Glenn left for work late afternoon, and it’s always harder when he leaves when we are all home. Normally he leaves at the same time I leave for work on Monday morning. The evening temps turned out so beautifully that evening, so I channeled my gloom and created.
Thank Goodness for STUFF
We had an old pallet in the garage, and when I say old, I mean rough. I told Glenn about my idea, and he instantly said he could get me a better pallet. But, I wanted to create this for the girls that evening as busy summer schedules may not allow a time all together anytime soon.
I began by covering the ground with an old quilt and laying the pallet on top. Next, I layered another quilt on top to mask how rough the pallet truly was and cover some nails (don’t worry, no one was injured). Setting this outdoor tablescape was so much fun! Aren’t these pink chargers sweet? They are from Homegoods and provide a fun coastal vibe.
The pink plates are from Sophistiplate. I just adore their disposable collections. I have called on their products over and over and they never disappoint. Our house has been adorned with pink peonies for the past week, so naturally I used them as the centerpiece. Let me tell you, their scent was heavenly <3
The pillows were all just ones that I had, and I figured a quick picnic on the ground wouldn’t hurt them. Spontaneous creations such as this really force you to shop your home, and I was thrilled with the pieces I already had to pull this off.
Surprise!
Once nightfall began, the twinkly lights came on, I lit the candles, and scooped some ice-cream. It was so fun surprising the girls with this backyard picnic. They knew I was up to something, but were good about not peeking 😉
Luckily the bugs haven’t been bad, but just in case I lit my citronella candle from Flashpoint candle. This one is left over from last year, and I LOVE the scent. It’s called, Sunset Citronella, if you are interested. They are fun to own, because once the candles are no longer of use the pottery can be re-purposed. I quick took some pictures before the girls came out, because I just knew I had to share 😀
I hope you find this inspiring. Sometimes it’s the spontaneous acts and creations that come out the best. The girls loved it by the way. Lauren even played a few tunes <3
