Cozying up our bedroom for the cooler months has proven to be too much fun. I promised to keep you up to date, so I am excited to show you a little progress. If you missed my last post, click here. I shared a mood board showing my plans. I’ll show you again, no worries 😉 Just for fun, click here to view last year’s design.

I wanted to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of shopping your own home first when either creating a new look on your own, or gathering inspo from an outside source. Browsing a home decor catalog is a favorite past time of mine, but often an entire shot has me dreaming of owning the whole space. I used to get discouraged knowing I couldn’t afford what was shown, but then I started studying the design. I realized I could re-create a similar look and layout by moving a few things from room to room. If I still haven’t mastered the look, I search for items similar to those I was eyeing in the catalog and find them for much less!
So, here is the mood board I created.
Creating this collection came from within, no catalog inspo this time around. You all know I love neutrals, and the soothing color of gray will forever be my “go to” color. I knew I wanted a duvet cover, and didn’t have a gray one just laying around (unfortunately) so my search began. Ultimately, I decided linen would create just the fresh look I was envisioning.
What I did have laying around was a blush throw, a faux white fur throw pillow, plants, baskets, and my cedar chest. I didn’t add the blush throw to my mood board just because I already had one. I added it for the mere fact that I liked the way all the colors complimented each other. It was only after creating the board did I realize I wouldn’t have to purchase a new throw 😀 Same goes for the other items I had on hand.
- You could say I love my blush fur throw 😉
My cedar chest was the very first piece of furniture I painted with chalk paint. I was hooked after this makeover. When creating a new space, I don’t always realize I have something that will work until I really study the design I am going for. I am a visual person, so creating the board helped me pull ideas from pieces I already have. Sure, a bench like the one on my board would be lovely, but it’s not in the budget.
My white faux fur pillow has made the rounds too.
I have been exercising my green thumb. I love how plants instantly warm up a space. Having a house full sure helps when shopping your own home. When in doubt, stick a plant there! So, adding the warmth of nature wasn’t a problem, and I’m a big fan of bringing the outdoors in.
Sure, trends happen… color choice of the year, design choice, white and bright, dark and moody, wallpaper, stenciling, brass and gold, brushed nickle, black, etc. Each year, the trend changes, that’s never going to end. I am a strong believer that shopping smart for foundational items that are timeless allows for purchasing smaller items more frequently. Now, I am not a fan of clutter, so adding to your collection of home decor is good and bad. Shopping your own home may mean you have too much stuff, but I’ll save that for another blog post 😉 Without further ado, here is a sneak peek of the progress toward fulfilling my vision.
What do you think? Can’t you just picture those soft brown leather throw pillows in the mix?? I am giddy with anticipation! Several followers reached out to me when sharing the mood board on Instagram and via Instagram stories that I decided to pull together several items shown in a variety of price ranges. I have linked it all below for you in case you are feeling the same vibe I am this Fall 😉 I will share the link to the Etsy shop where I found the faux brown leather pillows as well. Definitely check EAHomeCollection out!! Elizabeth has amazing craftsmanship!
I’ll be back soon with another update. Fall changes are happening over here daily, and there is so much I can’t wait to share with you, but one change I am not looking forward to is our oldest 2 heading off to college next weekend. Summer has just flown by, and another new plateau has taken root. If you wouldn’t mind keeping us in your prayers as we transition into this next phase, I would be so grateful <3
Talk soon!
