A Summer Refreshed Kitchen and Living Room – Blog Hop

Hi!  Summer is in full swing! I am excited to have joined a group of talented bloggers to share how we refreshed our homes for the summer months.  If you have hopped over here from Holli BeesNBurlap then welcome!  Follow the links at the end to an entire sea of inspiration!  A very big hello to any new visitors and a big thank you to my loyal returning readers <3

Whether it’s an entire room or a single item refreshed, we are all eager to share our summer projects with you in hopes of inspiring you along the way!  I chose to repaint my kitchen and re-arrange our living room… again… what can I say, things don’t stay the same around here. 😉 But, I do love the way it looks and I hope you do too!

So, I’ll start by stating that about a month ago, I gave the kitchen a French Farmhouse Style look and I have to say, I absolutely love it.  I painted my kitchen Cloudburst by Sherwin Williams several years ago.  It was a bold move, and I remember loving it when I was finished.  To me, it was a perfect shade of dark turquoise, and gave a lake, coastal feel.  I heard a few moans and groans from some of my girlfriends when I mentioned painting the kitchen a brighter and more neutral shade.  Makes me smile, because I love entertaining and knowing my friends enjoy the spaces I create makes me feel so good.  But they feel just at home in this much brighter space. 😉

You have heard it before, but paint is all you need to completely change the look of a room.  It can be so drastic!  The paint I chose for the kitchen is Aloof Grey by Sherwin Williams.  I painted my oldest daughter’s bedroom this color last winter and knew it would display nicely in the kitchen.  And the best part was, I had an entire gallon left over!!

Kitchen:

IMG_0040

What do you think?  I am just so happy with how bright and airy it is!  The whole process of changing our kitchen has taken 3 years and we aren’t completely finished yet.  We started by painting our oak cabinets white and I can’t tell you how thrilled i STILL am! If you would like to see how we did that, and what our kitchen looked like in Cloudburst, click here.

I would LOVE new counter-tops, and maybe some day that will be in the budget.  I am glad they are a neutral shade for now.

IMG_0046

These counter stools pop against the neutral wall now.  I can change things out and still maintain a neutral palette to work with.

IMG_8079

A few months back, my husband hung a white backsplash of wainscoating. I immediately fell in love with how it looked as a backdrop to my counter swag.  However, I didn’t love how it looked up against the blue walls.  Now it just blends in 🙂

Before and After

Living Room:

IMG_0281

I re-arranged the living room not too long ago when we removed a recliner and added an older loveseat back in the mix.  I found an amazing gal who fabricates custom slipcovers, and I was all over that!! If you want to see that amazing transformation, click here.  Unfortunately, the flow of the room was tight, I feel like this arrangement best suits this space.

IMG_0146

We have a very small entry way, so I utilized this space in order to welcome guests with an area to drop their belongings and also extra storage for hats, gloves, etc.

IMG_0142

I just love how the new, brighter paint in the kitchen complements the darker grey in the living room.  The living room was painted several years ago when I painted the kitchen blue and loved the contrast of the turquoise and grey for a long time, but I love this more. 😉  The living room is painted Mink by Sherwin Williams.

IMG_0143

I have a slight addiction to throw pillows, but I share that addiction with many of you! I move them around constantly, especially when a new one joins the mix!

IMG_7990

Just like fresh paint, re-arranging a room creates an entirely new feel to a familiar space and it’s budget friendly!!

IMG_0284

I wanted the room to be cozy and conducive to conversation. I tried arranging the furniture at an angle, but this time, it fits just perfectly centered around the coffee table.

IMG_0258

IMG_0267

This is an area I struggle with.  My window seat is narrow, so I would need a custom cushion made, and frankly I just haven’t researched having that done yet.  I definitely believe this could be more cozy.  I welcome any suggestions, please leave me a comment below.

Who says functional items can’t also be pretty?

But, what about this? suppose you added a little
content? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your website, however suppose you added something
that grabbed folk’s attention? I mean A Summer Refreshed Kitchen and Living Room – Blog Hop
is a little boring. You could look at Yahoo’s front page and note how they create article headlines to grab people to open the links.
You might add a video or a picture or two to get people interested about everything’ve got to say.
Just my opinion, it might make your posts a little livelier.
