My Momma’s Kitchen

Hi there!! Hope you all stayed cool this weekend.  We spent a lot of time in the pool.  Isn’t it ironic how each year during the county fair, we have the hottest weather?  There are so many volunteers who give countless hours insuring visitors and exhibitors enjoy every ounce of the fair.  My parents are a couple of those good-hearted folk.  They have been cooking breakfast for as long as I can remember.  I used to love joining them as long as I could run the donut counter or drinks 😉

Hiho Farms

Growing up on a farm is something I am so grateful for.  There is nothing more peaceful than walking around the acreage I grew up on and taking in the work of God’s majestic hands.  Home grown vegetables growing in abundance waiting to be picked and put up for winter.  I love it all!!

Hiho Farms

With that being said, I have been showing you a lot of my home and my love for neutrals, so I thought I would change it up this week and showcase my mom’s kitchen.  I know not everyone wants to paint their cabinets white, or everything else for that matter.  I respect the authentic style of each and every one of you.  My mom being one who has her own distinct style and, even though different than my own, I love how her home shows her personality.

They remodeled the kitchen last summer and I loved helping her style it.  I hope you enjoy a small glimse into her farmhouse kitchen.

P.S. I took some of these photos last Fall 😉

We had fun making this sign for the start of her new gallery wall.

I know, I know! So many fun items. Love those bowls!

My mom loves to sew. Ok, well, she used to sew a lot more than she does these days; the important thing is she can whip up a valance whenever she wants.  She and my sis painted the walls a bright, airy neutral.  The natural wood tones warm up this space nicely.

She tossed around the idea of painting her cabinets, but in the end decided it would be too much.  You see, she has sooo many cabinets!!  And in the end I feel like she made the right choice.  They compliment her design choices.  It’s such a warm and cozy kitchen.  Many memories of soup, homemade cookies, canning fruits and vegetables, playing games, etc. Her kitchen is big enough to house many family gatherings, all we have to do is add a few leaves to the table 😉

IMG_0203She went with vinyl tile for her choice in flooring with no grout. Love the texture and how the pattern compliments her cabinets.

One of my favorite things she did was adding the decorative backsplash.  I can’t get over how perfect it is.  Talk about easy to maintain and looks so good!

She did splurge on cabinet handles.  They added so much character and refreshed the cabinets without changing them completely.  Her favorite part, I think, is the butcher block counter top.  It’s absolutely gorgeous. Photos do not do it justice.  It is a little higher maintenance, but well worth the beauty it provides.

Country living, small town life, it’s what I know and love and know so many of you do as well.  I feel blessed to have been brought up in the heart of farm country.  Bringing small elements from the farm into our home not only fills me with joy but gives a sense of purpose.  Isn’t it crazy how many different ways country style can be displayed in our homes? There are so many different avenues you can choose when decorating, and it’s all acceptable!  You have to create a space that makes you and your family feel comfortable.  There’s no right or wrong, only suggestions and guidelines for those who want them.

Thanks for visiting my momma’s kitchen with me this week.  She has always pushed me to be my own self and encouraged my creativity.  She was always willing to let me re-arrange my bedroom growing up and loved when I would decorate on cleaning days.  It was a creative outlet for me then, and still is today.

I’m excited to join a group of bloggers in a Summer Refresh Home Tour coming up late this week, I sincerely hope you will visit back and gain lots of inspiration!

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult time deciding
    between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

When I initially commented I appear to have clicked the
-Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time
a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment.
Perhaps there is a means you can remove me from that service?
    Thank you!
